Building a Coaching Culture

When I began working as an internal coach, I knew that to make a lasting impact it needed to more than just the coaching.

The right culture needs to be in place - you need to work to develop a ๐™˜๐™ค๐™–๐™˜๐™๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™œ ๐™˜๐™ช๐™ก๐™ฉ๐™ช๐™ง๐™š.

Through this process I have begun to sketch out a rough strategy how one can do this.

Here are some of my learnings so far:

๐Ÿญ. ๐—•๐—ฒ๐—ด๐—ถ๐—ป ๐—ฏ๐˜† ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—น๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜€๐—ต๐—ถ๐—ฝ ๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—บ - give them the opportunity to experience coaching first hand. This leads by example..

๐Ÿฎ. ๐—ฆ๐—ฝ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐˜๐—ถ๐—บ๐—ฒ ๐˜๐—ผ ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—บ๐—บ๐˜‚๐—ป๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฒ ๐˜„๐—ต๐—ฎ๐˜ ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐—ถ๐˜€ ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐—ถ๐˜€๐—ปโ€™๐˜. Allow people to learn about you and gain their trust. Make it easy for people to feel safe.

Allow them to do this during work hours. This communicates this is important to the organisation. Information sessions where people can see demos to witness what coaching looks like and feels like.

๐Ÿฐ. ๐—ก๐—ผ๐˜ ๐—ฒ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜†๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฒ ๐—ถ๐˜€ ๐—ถ๐—ป๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜/๐˜„๐—ฎ๐—ป๐˜๐˜€/๐—ป๐—ฒ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ๐˜€ ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด and that is perfectly ok. Coaching is not for everyone.

๐Ÿฑ. ๐—ข๐—ณ๐—ณ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ/๐˜€๐˜‚๐—ฝ๐—ฝ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐˜ ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐—ถ๐—ป ๐˜ƒ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ผ๐˜‚๐˜€ ๐—ณ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—บ๐˜€ - regular sessions, lightning coaching (short sessions with very clear focus), peer and self coaching.
