Christopher McCann, the one-legged coach
I am a certified Co-Active coach, facilitator and educator who believes lasting change takes place through intentional experiences and honest conversations.
To learn more about how you can benefit from coaching and what to expect and don’t miss what others say about working with me.
Originally born and educated on the East Coast of the US, I have spent the last 25 years living and working in Stockholm, Sweden.
During this time, I have worked all over Europe and have enjoyed the gift of experiencing different cultures head-on. This hasn’t always been easy but taught me to appreciate the positive essence of people.
It wasn’t until I was designing and building my first design team that I became interested in coaching.
I often heard from others “You have such a coaching style“ and I wasn’t really sure what this meant. To find out, I went to my first coach and experienced the transformation of coaching first-hand.
I was hooked.
I knew this was something that I wanted to be part of my life, so I completed my Co-Active training. Since then, I have been coaching individuals and teams.
When I was a teenager, my mother said, “You would be a good teacher”.
I avoided this for some time, but teaching found me a few years ago (yeah, she was right). The process of understanding what’s in the learner’s mind, modelling that in your mind, and building a bridge from the learner’s mental state to mine is what motivates me.
I have designed and developed online and in-person learning experiences in the areas of Creativity Methods, Product UX and Design Leadership at Bergh’s School of Communication, Nackademin and Hyper Island in Stockholm.
The common theme across all of these areas is that they involve helping people shift perspectives from one place to another, adding things or getting rid of others in their lives during the process.
Whether this is change through using new knowledge or personal and group insights they all lead to a different and exciting new place.
Life with Cancer
In 2001, I was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer in my left leg. After numerous operations and cancer treatments, my left leg was amputated just above the knee in 2005.
This was a massive shift in my life. You can read more about my journey here.
I soon realised that I almost had to forget about the person I was before and the things I was able to do.
I had to pretend it was never me. I am afraid if I had not made that realisation, my frustration with re-defining myself with one leg would have turned into something much harder to recover from.
Today I view myself as a strong, healthy cancer survivor.
Looking forward to connecting.
